The former Air force soldier went a notch higher in his career when he was appointed as a white house counsel by his long time ally and now president Bush. Alberto Gonzales was born and raised in a family of eight by a father who worked in the construction industry. He later joined the Air force but later quit to join Rice University where he studied political science. He went on to study law at the Harvard law school.
Prior to serving in the state of Texas as a general counsel and later as the secretary of state, Alberto worked in a private law firm of Vinson and Elkins which is based in Houston. The big break for the San Antonio born lawyer came on February 2005 when he was appointed as the Attorney General of the United States to replace John Ashcroft.
He got into a number of controversies mostly related to the war on terror. He was the brains behind a controversial order by George Bush that was aimed at curtailing the freedom of information act limiting access to information of past presidents.
Alberto Gonzalez stopped for the day as the Attorney General and resigned on September 17, 2007 after several perjury allegations were made against him. He is married to Rebecca Turner and is blessed with three sons.
